Us on the Radio (& other news...)

Mike and Duncan with Katie in the studio
This Afternoon we (Mike and Duncan) appeared on the Katie Martin Show, on Radio Solent, a great opportunity to get the word out to a wider audience. We arrived in Southampton the best part of an hour before our allotted time slot (didn't want to be late) and were feeling a little apprehensive. Once on air we gradually relaxed and in the end we felt that it went pretty well. You can judge for yourself if you wish, on the BBC iplayer, available until the 29th June 2011 (we are on around the 2hr 35min mark).

Waiting in reception, Mike attempts to surpress his stage fright...

Katie has also mentioned us on her Facebook page (thanks Katie).

Last weekend Mike and Alasdair collected at the Meridian Centre in Havant, , with some considerable success, and this coming weekend we are back at the Havant ASDA store. We are moving every closer to our £10,000 target and getting pretty confident now.

Although we have been training, other demands on our time (i.e. work) have meant that we have only managed one group ride of late, to Chichester and back on Sunday 12th June. This ride started out pleasantly enough, taking the scenic route along Emsworth Common, through Funtington and East Ashling, then into Chichester from the north. We stopped of in the city centre in high spirits and took photos which quickly degenerated into  'catalogue' posing. The time at this point was still only around 7:30am.

As we set of on the return journey along the old A27 through Fishbourne, it started to rain.  At this  point Andy took the opportunity to have his first ever puncture.

Having fitted a new inner tube, we set off again...and then then heavens really opened. By the time we arrived home we were soaked, especially Andy - he didn't even have a jacket!

To bring this post to a close there are a couple of further developments to report. We now have another sponsor, 'Cycleworks' in Petersfield, who are generously helping us out with some gear and servicing, and we are very pleased to announce that Alan Knight, the legendary ex-Pompey goalkeeper has agreed to be the official ambassador for the Mile by Mile Charity Cycling Team.

Lending Support

We've been at ASDA Waterlooville this morning, supporting their  event  raising awareness of male health issues, in particular testicular cancer. The plan was for the staff to collectively cycle 500 miles on exercise bikes, over three days, we  went along to help them reach their target. Mid morning we were joined by Alan Knight (ex Portsmouth goalkeeper), who attracted some welcome press interest.

We also débuted our new team shirts, sponsored by TEC Promotions (wigs were optional attire).

The final distance covered is unknown at present as the event continued after we had left. Suffice to say the we contributed in excess of 80km to the total.

Cashing in at the Casino

Last night (Tuesday 31st May 2011) was the night of our fund raiser at the Grosvenor Casino in Southsea. This event revolved around the idea of teams of gamblers playing with fake money as they moved between the tables. After some initial reservation whilst we found our feet, some seriously reckless gambling took place, aided and abetted by Andy 'go on, stick it all on 19, it'll be fine, can't loose' Chalmers.*

Also included in the ticket price was a three course meal, which was of a high quality and very well received.

At the end of the evening prizes were awarded, for a varirty of achievements, including 'highest score within a team', 'lowest scoring individual', 'biggest b*$@ls' and of course the winning team.

All in all a very enjoyable and successful evening. So a big thank you to Stuart and the Grosvenor Casino, Southsea, and to all how participated and gave there support.
